After learning about Tech Will Save Us at Glug London (suitably named Super Bold Max) several of us at TheTin were inspired to try to make one of their DIY kits. One of us tried the Thirsty Plant Sensor and The Electric Play Dough. Daisy, Sasha and I bought the Synth Kit.
Tech Will Save Us is a small company that creates DIY kits and devises workshops to make technology and electronics accessible to young people. There are three different synth options you can chose to build; and dub siren. I chose to make the classic synth which was the medium difficulty option. Still, it is meant for children aged 12 and above but as a technological novice it turned out to be quite a struggle.
After an hour or so it was able to produce a high pitch whine and not much else. As an introduction to electronics, though, Tech Will Save Us have created a series of really lovely projects with some serious branding eye candy.
I was a little bit disappointed with the final outcome though. Maybe the next step is to break it apart and try something new with it. Watch this space.
